Blast & Prime
When a Work Order is planned in our daily balance sheets, material is moved to staging areas near the Paint line conveyor. Plates (structural is handled in a similar manner) are loaded on the conveyor that moves through the various stages of the line at around 8 to 10 feet per minute. First it is blown clean with an air-knife. From there the plate runs through a pre-heater to bring the surface temperature up to +/-110 degrees (F). The warm plate then proceeds through the shot-blasting machine and, after being swept and blown clean, continues through the automated paint booth. CEMP inorganic zinc primer applied at a rate of .75 dmft. Because the plate has been preheated, the primer dries quickly, allowing plate handling as soon as it clears the paint booth. The combination of automated blasting and painting assures a consistent blast pattern and paint application, unlike manual systems. The Blast and paint line can blast and prime plate up to 13’-0 wide x 50’-0 long at rates up to 10 fpm and structural up to 20” high x x 50’-0 long at rates up to 5 fpm.
